Hi All,
As a makeup addict - yes I do buy way more then I can use. I do love one particular part of makeup...Brushes!! I honestly can never buy enough - which is a costly addiction to have.
Pretty much all the make up as well as tools I use are by MAC and as many faithful MAC lovers it does become hard to stray to other brands however I have recently discovered the ELF (eyes lips face) brand and I must say I'm impressed.
My first alarm bell was raised by just how cheap these brushes are. You can pick up most brushes for around $3 US which compared to MAC is simply ridiculously cheap. For those of you in Australia (such as me) you'll be disappointed to know that the ELF website does not ship to Australia HOWEVER there are many on ebay which will only cost you a few dollars more.
I purchased two brushes from the range, one is the Professional Blending Brush the other is the Professional Defining Eye brush.
OK- Professional Blending Brush.
This one I bought and I can only really compare it to the MAC 217. One of my favourite brushes.
The similarities first:
Does the same job, both are use to blend in or out colour.
Both are extremely soft, which was my main concern when buying a cheaper priced brush, was it going to stab me in the eye? answer- no. The elf brush is just as soft as the MAC.
Very comfortable to hold, the handle is a good thickness and makes holding it very comfortable.
The differences:
The bristles on this one are VERY slightly shorter then the MAC 217. This is not really a bad thing. It does allow for a bit more control when blending colour.
The MAC 217 has a pinched bristle base, the ELF brush is completely round which results in more bristles on the ELF, again not really a bad thing just means the brush picks up more colour and you may need to watch your fall out.
The Defining Eye Brush
Most comparable to the MAC 275
Similarities.
Very similar shape to the 275 however the ELF appears to be a bit more fluffy.
Differences
Again this one is smaller then the MAC 275 version.
This brush I really feel is not an essential make up brush to have. I would really rather have more 217's then have this - unless your into collecting which I'am. So yes short answer the ELF is a good brush but if you dont have a lot of cash to buy brushes you can pass on this one as its not one of my 'GO TO' tools.
Overall! I was happy with the ELF range and I will buy more of these brushes. They are a great alternative if your cant afford the MAC ones and if your just starting out.
If anyone has any ELF brushes they'd like me to buy and review..drop me a line! :)
